Memories Over Possessions

Memories over possessions represents a way of thinking which values moments and experiences over the more material aspects of our life. For example, at one point all I was doing was spending money on expensive cars and clothes and terrible dates. I would go out on the weekends and spend like $160 for pair of jeans, $80 for a shirt and countless dollars on expensive drinks for random women. Even though it felt good at that time none of these things truly created any long term happiness for me.

Then I changed everything, I sold my over priced sports car back to the dealership, stopped buying all the expensive clothes and drinks that were draining my bank account. Stopped going out every single night spending money that only left me with a hangover in the morning and finally started to realize that I wanted more out of life.

From that point on I started spending my hard earned money on more meaningful and substantive things. Like traveling the world and learning from different cultures and gaining an incredible perspective on our world and the beautiful experiences that it contains. Even though I did not bring back many physical things from these countries, albeit I did get some cool souvenirs. What I did bring back in abundance was amazing memories, experiences and pictures that have left me with a feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment that is hard to fully describe in words.

Nothing else in my life has been able to provide this type of long lasting sense of happiness and purpose. Not even going to school and getting two degrees, not even getting a well paying job right out of school has been able to compare to the feeling that globe trotting has given me.

Memories over possessions is all about choosing to spend your money on things like travel and adventures and experiences in order to create everlasting memories that you could look back on and be proud of and feel a great sense of fulfillment.
